Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup (170g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large (50g) egg, room temperature
  • 2 tsp (10ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp (1.5g) salt
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, whisking constantly as it foams. Once small brown specks appear and a nutty aroma develops, remove from heat immediately.
  2. Whisk the browned butter and brown sugar together until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla extract, beating vigorously for 1-2 minutes to create aeration.
  3. Sift in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Use a spatula to fold the mixture gently until no flour streaks remain; do not overmix.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips. Spread the batter into an 8x8 inch lined metal baking pan.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until the edges are golden brown and pulling away from the sides, but the center remains slightly underbaked.
